On Sunday, January 8, the traditional Blessing of Water service took place at the conclusion of church services. The Godfather of the Cross during the Blessing of the Water Service was 11th Grade Sunday School student, Van Teager, son of Daniel and Maria Mahdasian Teager.
Parishioners were then invited to join Yelena Bisharyan, PhD and Cynthia Kazanjian, RD, for their presentation as part of our monthly Trinity Talks series that is put on by parishioners for parishioners. This month’s topic was about the organization that Cynthia and Yelena are on the board of directors for called City of Smile. They spoke about City of Smile’s mission which is “to improve the lives of children diagnosed with cancer in Armenia by raising awareness and funds to provide life-saving treatments as well as emotional, nutritional and psychological support for affected children and their families.” As part of their ongoing fund-raising efforts, traditional and creative programs and events were also discussed, such as a popular Chess-tournament fundraiser.
Following the presentation by Cynthia and Yelena, Holy Trinity’s Armenian School put on a performance of their annual hantes led by Armenian School principal Naira Balagyozian. Many young students took to the stage to perform songs and recite poems in Armenian that they have been working on each Sunday morning. Many parents, parishioners, and the Armenian School teachers proudly watched as the students passionately performed with a mission to carry on and preserve the Armenian language and culture.
