Holy Saturday, being Easter Eve, begins celebrations of a joyous character in the evening. When the service begins, the lights of the church are turned off. They are suddenly turned on sometimes with the reading of Isaiah 60 and sometimes at the end of the Divine Liturgy. It is the joyous Easter Eve. From the sudden and dramatic lighting of candles in the church, the ceremony of Easter Eve takes it name in Armenian, Jurakalouytz (the lighting of candles).[taken from "Living the Armenian Church Year," published by the Department of Youth and Education, Diocese of the Armenian Church of America (Eastern)]
